On the board tonight

Random chat rooms, general chat and everything between

Rooms come and go — anyone can open one — but these are the kinds you will find on the board most nights.

  • # General chat

The lobby. Whatever is on your mind, someone here will answer.

  • # Night owls

For everyone still awake when the rest of the world is asleep.

  • # Music & playlists

Share what you have on repeat and steal someone else’s.

  • # Movies & series

Spoiler-tagged reviews, recommendations, last night’s finale.

  • # Gaming

Find a squad, argue about the meta, show off a clip.

  • # New in town

Moved somewhere new? Ask the locals and meet people who just arrived too.

How it works

From the room list to a real conversation

A chat room is the easiest way to start talking online: nobody is waiting on you to speak first.

  1. 1

    Open the room list

Rooms are sorted so the busy ones are easy to find. Each shows a topic and how many people are inside.

  2. 2

    Read, then say hello

Scroll back through the conversation first. Jumping in is easier when you know what everyone is talking about.

  3. 3

    Take it one to one

Get along with someone? Open their profile and message them privately — or move to video if you both want.

Why chat rooms still beat a feed

A feed is people talking at you. A chat room is people talking with each other, live. Nobody is performing for likes, threads move fast, and you can drop in for five minutes or stay all night.

On BaseChat, an online chat room is free to join. You can stay quiet and read, answer one message, or become a regular. Room owners set the rules for their own space, and anyone who ruins it can be blocked, reported and removed.

Room etiquette in three lines

  • Read before you post. A minute of scrolling tells you the tone of the room.
  • Talk to the room, not at one person. If you want a private chat, ask first — then message.
  • Keep personal details private. No phone numbers, addresses or social handles in an open room.

Prefer talking to one person at a time? Try stranger chat or a random text chat.

Questions

Chat room questions

Are the chat rooms on BaseChat free?

Yes. Browsing rooms, joining a free chat room and posting messages cost nothing. Coins are only for optional extras such as gifts or video calls.

How do I find a busy room?

The room list shows how many people are in each room. Start with a general chat room or the busiest one, read for a minute, and say hello when you have something to add.

Can I create my own chat room?

Yes. You can start a room around any topic, write its rules and decide whether people join freely or ask first.

What if someone in a room is rude?

Block them so you no longer see their messages, and report them. Room owners and admins can remove people, and the moderation team handles reports.

Can I talk to someone privately after meeting them in a room?

Yes. Open their profile from the room and send a private message. If you both want to, you can move to a video chat from there.

The general chat room is busy right now

Open the room list and see who is talking.
